Vista problem with 2 sata hd
Since I have the SATA motherboard I'll need to purchase an IDE drive controller to get my second hard drive up and running. During the attempt to install over Vista I got an XP error message that said: Cannot create folder C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WINS I had the option to Try Again or Abort the install.

Booting vista alongside xp
Install it internally with a standard 100Mb EIDE or with a faster SATA interface. Install the game of your choice on that drive and play it. If the hard drive is slower, it doesn't matter how fast the interface is. If the interface can't use 100% of its potential bandwidth then it may limit access speed.

Microsoft throws in the towel on Vista

With Vista this is not necessary. You can install Vista on C: and then installed XP on D (or XP on C: and Vista on D:) it doesn't really matter.
