install vista 2nd hard drive

I have a T60 laptop. The primary hd has windows xp on it. I don't want to touch it. I got a ultraslim ATA Hard drive adapter and a 80GB hd.
Can I boot up from the USB external DVD-Burner and install vista on the 2nd HD ?
Is there anything I should pay more attention ?
